Omega-3 fatty acids belong to the polyunsaturated fatty acids. Unlike saturated fatty acids, the body cannot produce these fatty acids itself. They must therefore be supplied from the outside – i.e. through food. Since omega-3 fatty acids are vital for our organism, they are also called essential fatty acids. Since the ratio of omega-3 to omega-6 fatty acids is not in balance, it promotes inflammation in the body. If the imbalance is not corrected, it can have serious consequences. Experts believe that a large proportion of the diseases of civilisation, such as heart attacks, strokes, asthma, rheumatism and neurodermatitis, can be traced back to the development of silent inflammation, which is promoted by an excess of omega-6 fatty acids.
